Day 6 of '40 DAYS OF FACING FEAR': Doing a Risqué Activity
The below is from the original Facebook post on March 6th 2017:
As a recovering-perfectionist; as a person who has been told to 'be careful' more times than I can remember growing up; and from studying law, for the majority of my life I've thought through my actions and been risk-averse-to-an-extent. So, the next challenge had to involve doing something that was the opposite of conservative. It had to embrace the freer side of me that loves climbing mountains and being care-free. So, what's more [culturally] risqué than 'baring all' to the world? While this wasn't walking down Lambton Quay topless, it was an activity that I'd had on my bucket list for years, just to experience it: SKINNY DIPPING!
Incredibly, a friend had messaged me a few days ago saying that if I needed someone to do some of the challenges with, she would accompany me. So, I took her up on her offer! I'm unsure if this was the kind of activity that she expected to be called on to do with me, but she was still game for it. Amazing friend!!
Me (phone call - paraphrased): Hey lovely! Remember how you said you would do activities with me for my 40 day challenge?
Friend: Yes! What do you have in mind?
Me: It's a bit risqué... but, would you want to go skinny dipping with me?
Friend: [laughs, pauses] .... I've never done it either! Okay, let's do it!!!
Me: You're amazing. I'll pick you up at 7.30pm so we can also watch the sunset :)
As it is Wellington, and I didn't want to risk the weather changing, this challenge was done on Sunday/last night. It was scary, liberating and.... freezing!! The water was very, very cold. But, totally worth it. Bucket list item = ticked off!
