Day 32 of '40 DAYS OF FACING FEARS': trying a trailblazing activity

Day 32 of '40 DAYS OF FACING FEARS': trying a trailblazing activity
I had absolutely no idea how this activity was going to go, so I was a bit nervous going to meet the group of people that I would be doing it with. Today's challenge was taking part in an activity that not only no friends had been done, but no one in New Zealand had done it before. The facilitator kindly called us "trailblazers" for giving the activity a go.

In 20 or so countries around the world there are facilitated events called 'Street Wisdom' events. They involve three parts: (1) 'tune up' the senses, (2) 'street quest' and (3) share the insights/learnings found via the quest.

'Exploring' the streets of Wellington. I was immediately drawn to all of the different colours of the buildings and the markets.

Basically, it feels like experiencing something familiar (i.e. Wellington city) with new eyes via a set of facilitated activities and tools. Simple yet incredible. By spending time with a focused question in mind, one can find immense wisdom and answers to the question just by wandering the streets with focused and 'tuned up' senses.

The sign underneath this awesomely colourful umbrella made me stop and laugh! :)

Things that I 'found' (or, had not noticed due to sticking to familiar paths) - a cool alley in Cuba Street with an amazing art workshop ('inkLink') where I had a great chat with the artist and owner. We bonded immediately over my appreciation of his art works, the fact I had been to Hong Kong a few years ago and bought some paintings done in a similar style and our shared love for creativity. Other things: how much COLOUR and beauty there is everywhere. I thought I'd noticed it before, but this was to a new level.

With the funny and incredibly talented InkLink owner, Stan. He's awesome! See his talent behind us - his copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

I can't recommend this kind of activity highly enough. It felt like 'travelling in one's own backyard/familiar neighbourhood'. A micro-adventure, if you will! A very fun afternoon with lots of insights :)

Tomorrow's challenge: taking the '24 hours without social media' one step further: 24 hours without all internet and phone...in the weekend. If you need to get hold of me, I'll be checking my phone from 8pm tomorrow onwards :) xx
